Run For Your Lives 5K Obstacle Run

My 2nd 5k was only 6 days after my 1st on 10/27 at the Run For Your Lives 5K adventure run & it was a blast.  I had about an hour drive to this one, so not quite as long as my drive to the Color Run last weekend.  The email they sent out before our race said to arrive about 2 hrs early for our wave which was at 11:30, but we decided to leave even a little bit earlier than that as we had read about the parking nightmares from last years inaugural event.  This year went a lot smoother for getting in, however shortly after we got out of there we saw on Facebook that it turned into a disaster again for them.  After seeing the photos that were posted from other races I knew that it wasn't advisable to take my iPhone along on this run, so I ran out to get 2 disposable waterproof cameras so we could have some pictures.  They turned out great!!

I met up with Angie & Tabitha at the race parking where we waited for the shuttle buses to bus us over to the race area.  Here is Tabitha & Angie before the race
 & here is Angie & I!
After getting thru all the lines to get checked in & our gear checked, we had some free time to walk around for a little.  We went over to the zombies at 1st zone & while they were waiting for their next meals to arrive they left us get some photos with them.
While lining up for our wave time, we got to choose of whether to be the appetizer, entree, or dessert & since Angie doesn't like waiting around we chose to be appetizers for the zombies!!

At the end of the tunnels they made it to look like they were cage the zombie food & here is a pic of Angie as we were waiting to start!
Tabitha running to avoid the zombies from taking her flags!
Then we pass this & all say "Oh great, there is a lake!"
Here are the barrels we had to crawl thru & right as we got out there was zombies waiting to try & get our flags!
lots & lots of these walls to climb over!
Then a maze with zombies waiting inside & outside for us!  Here is Tabitha coming out!
Then a row of x's to crawl under which killed my knee & once again as soon as we were out of them, zombies were waiting for us!!  You can see Angie & Tabitha running thru the zombies here.
 More walls!

Next obstacle was to crawl thru the mud under barbed wire. Angie & Tabitha are in the top pic & then I'm in the 2nd one as Tabitha just got out!
Next came the FREEZING lake!!  Here is Tabitha & Angie going in!

Angie & I getting a pic of each other in the lake!!
& poor Tabitha!!  The minute she got chest deep in the water, she said she just felt like she couldn't breathe, so rather than risk going across she was helped back out & went around the alternate route.  Angie ran across the one bridge to make sure Tabitha was ok.  Here they are meeting back up with me.
After this we had to go down a huge hill only to come back up the killer hill!!
& I finally made it to the top!  LOL!!
Some where after this hill we were just following a group of people & got led down a wrong way which led to a dead end, so we had to turn around to find the correct path again.  Oops!!
We found it & found the mud pit too!!

More of those walls!!

 Smoke houses now!

Angie playing blocker to help Tabitha make it thru alive since she still had a flag left!
 & then some rolling hills!

 & another mud pit!!

At the very end was the huge waterslide that we had seen in Facebook photos & was wondering if it would be there for us!  Here is Angie & I going down it!!

Then right after it was the electrical fence to crawl under!  Here is Angie going under!

After race photos!!  Angie & I!
& Angie & Tabitha!  Overall we had a great time with some ups & downs.  Tabitha still had a flag left up until the very last set of zombies when one of them tried to grab it, but missed & dug her hand into her belly & as if that wasn't enough, another zombie came by to snatch the flag from her.  I did manage to SURVIVE!!  But only thanks to the FREEZING lake & my shirt!  After crossing the lake, my shirt wouldn't stay up above my flags so it made it almost impossible for the zombies to get them as they weren't supposed to touch us at all.  My oldest daughter, Stephanie, wants to do this race, so more than likely I will be planning on it for next yr too.  :)

Color Run- My 1st 5K

On Sunday !0/21/12 I drove down to National Harbor, MD to meet my friend Angie from high school & her running buddy Tabitha for the Color Run 5K.  It was a blast!!
Here is Angie & Tabitha before the run
& here is me!!
They let people go every 10 minutes or so. While we waited a DJ talked and threw swag at us - socks, sunglasses, bags, t-shirts. The course was nice - a big hill at the start and then just downhill after that. Every kilometer or so they had a blasting station. Those were so much fun! I brought my iPhone with me so here are some action shots of Angie & Tabitha.  :)
In the Yellow zone:

& the Blue zone:
& the we found the Finish line!!!  I had just completed my 1st 5K!!

Angie had gotten some of the blue powder on her teeth, lol!
Here is a picture of us with all the color at the end!!
& the back of Angie
We had a blast!!  I am glad I chose this 5K as my 1st one as it was a really laid back run for anyone of all abilities!!

Catching the Wagon again....

Friday was a day of packing & cleaning the van as Lydia & I were heading to Atlantic City as soon as my older kids were picked up by their father, so I never ended up getting a workout done.  I don't take my DVD's along on the weekend trips for fear of breaking, & I either use it as a rest day or find some other means of working out when I go out of town.  Saturday morning we spent an hour in the heated pool swimming on the rooftop of our hotel outdoors followed by an hour of sitting & relaxing in the spa with the water jets right on my back.  It felt so good & relaxed my back alot.  After the pool & spa, I took Lydia up to the boardwalk & we walked for 4 miles to just enjoy the afternoon!  We came back to the room & had a nice dinner!  Sunday was an early day as we had to wake up at 6am to make it back home by 11am for my oldest's cheerleading graduation homecoming ceremony.  We spent almost 7 hours walking around a football field for this or that plus I spent an hour of working in the concession stand!  I was spent by nighttime, so no official workout again!  Monday was another busy day!  I met my friend Angie at the zoo for free entrance day & her birthday.  She had her 2 kids & I had Lydia, so we had a 3, 2, & 1 year old to chase after!  I turned my Jog Log app on my iPhone on to track our distance walked which ended up being 5.73 miles.  After getting home at 3:30pm, making dinner, & getting Steph to her cheer practice & then her outbound parent meeting for her trip to Williamsburg, VA next week with school, so there went Monday night as I was still exhausted.  I fell asleep with TV on & all & slept for 8 straight hours thru my alarm & all Tues morning.  Tues I was just so exhausted that orginally wanted to get a workout in during nap time, but I end up taking a nap myself, so I used Tuesday for my rest day.  Finally I managed to catch the train again today though!!  Dad was off work cause of the rain this morning, so during nap time I was able to go & get my run in.  I ran 3.26 miles!!  But I didn't finish my day there!!  At bed time I got CLX Burn circuit 2, Turbo Fire Core 20 & HIIT 15 done!!!  I was on fire!!  Fitbit right now is saying 3727 calories burned for today & I believe that may just be my highest yet!!!

Day 3: CLX Burn Circuit 1 + “Stretch 10” Class

Not much new today.  I ran to the store to pick up the new dumbbells I ordered yesterday to have for today's workout.  At naptime I got Burn 1 done & I even was able to use the new weights with some of them.  My muscles are on fire & I can definitely feel the burn in my arms from the past 2 days & in my quads from the running.   Mamaw took the kids to the vet with her this evening which gave me some more free "me" time, so I used it taking the other 2 dogs on walks.  I ended up walking almost 3 miles.  At points I wanted to break into a run, but couldn't for the dogs sake.  They are only pugs & have trouble breathing at times.  So now at bedtime with everything out of the way, I am getting some nice relaxing time in.  :)

Hope every one got their sweat on today!!

Day 2: Turbo Fire 55 EZ Class + 10min Stretch

Day 2 was an awesome day for me!!  I woke up feeling great, ran some errands, came home & ordered bigger 10 lbs dumbbells as I have a feeling I will be needing them for Chalean workouts!! :-)   Turbo Fire 55EZ was on the schedule for today & I did my best working thru it, but still had to take many breaks!  It was just as fun as I remembered it from last month!  Tomorrow is CLX burn circuit 1 again & stretch 10, so I will get to test out my new weights on some of the exercises!!

After bedtime I decided I was going out for a nice walk & got bored with it after only about 1/2 mile, so I started jogging it.   I put my phone in my pocket & just forgot about it & ran!!  After getting queasy in the stomach & being almost home, I pulled my phone out to look at it & couldn't believe my eyes.  My total distance was 3.84 miles tonight!  So far this is my longest distance, but not the fastest.  I am still playing it easy with the impact on my back.  Don't need to knock myself totally out of the game so early!

Hope everyone got their workout in today!
